Appearance

General Description

An object that is inserted into the neck of a container that allows a seal to form (Jones 1985). Glass stoppers consist of a shank, a finial and, on some stoppers, a neck (Jones 1985). The shank of a stopper may have threading or be ground down to aid in air tightness.
